At RPM: Jonathan Perry’s Life In Analog (and our new Google+ and Tumblr satellite sites), this acronym may as well stand for Rolling Stones Vinyl Porn! (Now I just have to come up with similarly suitable titles for other fave raves who’ll appear here, like The Who, Neil Young, Beatles, Hendrix, Led Zep, Big Star, the Stooges, the Velvet Underground, Nick Drake, as well as newer generations including Guided By Voices, Pavement, Yo La Tengo, Sonic Youth, Spoon, Drive-By Truckers etc.
In the spirit of Throwback Thursday (although, truth be told, we’re throwin’ it back pretty much every day of the week here), I invite you to check out a sample of some of my rarer records and vintage music memorabilia being posted and catalogued on an ongoing basis at my brand-spankin’ new “RPM: Life In Analog” Google+ site. As we’ve only just begun, this is just a tip of the proverbial wax cylinder.
Still, right now, you can see a ton of Rolling Stones (mostly unofficial fan club editions, first presses, test presses, odd relics, and promos), as well as a nice smattering of Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan, Who, Neil Young, and a few other scattered collectibles. If you like the glory of vintage LP covers, White Label Promo presses, crazy colored wax — even beautifully archaic reel-to-reels and dusty, road-tested truck-stop 8-tracks — and appreciate the love put into limited edition fan club “boot” recordings and titles, I’ll bet my splash wax copy of “Get Your Rocks Off!” that you will drool, just a little. Much, much more will eventually find its way there (after being posted right here first, naturally!), as we break out a smorgasbord of tasty visual treats of some of the most amazing, and amazingly rare, records and artists in history. I also invite comments and thoughts on what favorite rare birds and beasts reside in your own collections. Feel free to send pics and links to your own stashes as you see fit, and maybe I can get a guest gallery of goodies going! Hope you enjoy!
